Prior to this week Nashville had been without rain for quite a while - several weeks at least. This was perfect for our construction project. As the day of demolition got closer, the rain chances seemed to move further away. However, by the end of the weekend - there was a 30% chance of rain for Tuesday. 30% is not much to worry about and usually it doesn't even rain with a chance like that. But, we knew we wanted to get the kitchen water tight just in case.
We were able to get most of the plywood and the tyvek on the walls by Sunday evening. David came home Monday after work and immediately began putting the tar paper on the roof and nailing it down. At about 7 pm he realized that we didn't have enough tar paper to cover our new massive roof and headed to Home Depot. The plan was to get up the next morning and finish adding the tar paper and nailing it all down before leaving for work at 7am. Well, the rain decided to come in a little earlier than we planned and at about 6am, I woke up to the rain. I quickly woke David up and he climbed up on the roof to finish the tar paper. at 6am. in the dark. in the rain. I walked into the kitchen to yell up to see if there was anything I could help with and in the process was getting rained on as the water seeped in between the cracks of the tar paper (where it hadn't yet been nailed down). David worked quickly and by the time we left for work - water wasn't dripping into the kitchen any longer.
Needless to say, this kitchen project is going to be an adventure.
