Big Things...

So, things have been pretty quiet on the renovation front. Relatively. David has been working on the house every weekend and some weeknights since we began - but the last few weeks' work has not really been picture worthy. David had to reframe the floors and has been replacing drain lines and water lines. Once those are complete, the sub floor can be installed and then the interior walls can be framed.

Below is a picture of the front of the house. We decided that we needed to reframe the roof over the living room (living room roof was as flat as the kitchen roof) and we have been wanting to add a front porch for quite a while. This was a project that after much deliberation we decided to sub out. I didn't really want David taking the time away from the kitchen to get it done. But, we needed it done immediately because we are putting a metal roof on instead of shingles and we need to reroof all at the same time instead of in sections (which we could do if we were doing shingles). So, the roof and the porch have been reframed and we will hopefully have a new roof installed in the next couple of weeks.

Day 1 of front reframing:

Day 2 of front reframing:

A lot of people have been wondering if the front portion of our house was just open to all of the construction. During the first weekend of the renovation, David put in a temporary wall to help keep out the dust. This is also helping us as the weather is getting colder.

Here is a picture of the temporary wall from the inside of the house:

Yesterday was one of the first days that I could really help out since the first weekend. Most of the things David has been doing - well let's just say I'm probably more help just getting out of the way. And with the cold weather upon us, we felt it super imporant to begin the insulation. After a little instruction from David, I began installing the insulation. We also had a couple of guys come over for a couple hours to help. Jason went with David to HD and Derek stayed with me to finish the insulation. I'm quite proud of how much we got done in just a couple of hours. The boys continued to work on some demolition and some piping - and I left to go hang out with some of my favorite girls.

As I said early, the temperatures have dropped around Nashville and our poor Chessie is always shivering - so we found her a hoodie at Petsmart.  Even that wasn't enough on Saturday morning and we also put her jacket on her.  :)

Tomorrow morning I will be leaving the cold and headed to Phoenix for a week of training with work.  Looking forward to the warm up but I am also pretty excited because that means I have been PROMOTED!!  When I took the job at ICON, I was told the promotion would come somewhere between 6-18 months.  At 6 months I was placed on the list for promotion eligible.  However, because of bad timing and the economy, the promotion didn't come.  After over 37 months, I was finally told the good news.  And a week ago, my promotion was made effective.  This means that I will begin traveling most weeks once a replacement is found for me.  I am sad that I will be away from home a good bit but am very excited for the new challenge.

So, big things going on in the Grisham household....
